Katie's big 19th birthday palooza!

(alright so here's a huge load of pictures) HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE COTTRELL!! so for katie's birthday on the 16th, we had a fabulous no-school/birthday dinner/partay day! Katie went home for the weekend so tamori and I decided to decorate our place for katie's birthday. it was perfect not having there so we could totally deck it out! When she came home on monday, we surprised her with all the decorations, a birthday cake, presents and her favorite flowers! We then went to dinner at Macaroni Grill ( delicious ) there we dined on their amazing bread, and kalamari (sp?) aka SQUID! It was tamori, katie, me and scott that all went to dinner. (scott came because he works at chili's, which means he gets a 50% discount at Macaroni Grill...cha ching! and we also love the kid :) ) later everyone came over for our chocolate fountain buffet! We had two chocolate fountains going, one white chocolate and the other milk chocolate, strawberries, bananas, cake bites, marshmallows, pretzels, cinnamon bears, rice crispy treats etc! and of course to top it all off, BIRTDAY CAKE! Katie has the best roommates ever :)

me, scott, katie and tamori at dinner

tamori couldn't eat the little guy...so she named it instead! This is Ronaldo

we found 6 of these little guys, scott loved em' but me katie and tamori could not put ourselves into eating these little animals!

our family room filled with streamers and a birthday cake that had an air motor! courtesy of stacie

19 candles

and of course...we had to smash cake in someones face! Dan was the perfect victim!

of course you can't mess with dan without expecting it back in return..

katie definitely got it the worst!

she had to take a shower right after this, her hair was CAKED in icing...and cake! :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE! i LOVE you girl! xoXOxoXOxo

girls + superbowl...

yes...we here living in 324 had a superbowl party. and yes we watched the game...kinda! seeing that we had no side to cheer for, no idea what rules were what, a late night before (i had to wake up to drive my parents to the airport at 430 am :) ) so we only made it through the 1st 15 minutes of the game before we all fell asleep! all of us being katie, me and tamori! but we did happen to wake up for the last 2 minutes...which is the most important part of the game anyway! so way to go steelers...even though i was cheering for the cardinals ( go nate! ) it was a pretty good day! we had 7 layered bean dip thanks to mom, multigrain chips ( DELICIOUS ) strawberry mango juice, veggies and dip, and cupcakes decorated for the steelers and cards!

a whopping total of 52 cupcakes

the ones on the right are the steeler cakes! then we got bored so we decided to decorate some with our initials, stars, stripes, dots..etc :)

the party! katie tam and me!
cardinals vs steelers (of course we weren't about to draw a bird out of frosting for the cardinals..so we just did C's!)
katie and tamori cheering....this is totally a candid shot :)
steve and matt joined us later to help us eat all the food we had!
of course cam..being from pittsburgh, enjoyed eating his own teams logo

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas...

We love christmas time! Here in apartment 324 we spent our sunday night decorating for the holidays; we lit the tree, wrapped it with ribbon, hung the ornaments and last but not least put the big star on top! There are icicle lights in the window, garlands in the windowsill and counter tops and soon to be snowflakes hung on the window! (stacies idea/project she has!) We are so excited to have our place feel somewhat "homey" with all the decorations...we absolutely love it! Not gonna lie, we did a pretty good job at making our place look legit! Every visitor so far has commented on our skills at decorating, we've even had offers to decorate other apartments! It's fun to look out our window and at the other apartments in the buildings across from ours to see all their lights and trees in the windows. If there was a competition for best looking apartment we would DEFINITELY be the winners!
oh christmas tree...
In the garland we have little trees that spell out
MERRY CHRISMAS
Thanks to mom and dad for all the wonderful decorations! Katie's mom is driving down this thursday for a visit and to drop of a few more things! (aka a christmas wreath for our door!) I'll post more pictures of the new stuff she brings! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

SparkArts: A Digital Festival

Salt Lake City – The annual SparkArts Digital Festival will be at the Salt Lake City Library this Friday and Saturday. This free event teaches participants how to create art with a computer and is particularly geared toward people who want to make digital art and video games but don't know how.

"Utah had a thriving digital arts scene among teenagers and college student in the mid-90s," said Adam Helps, one of the festival's founders. "Unfortunately, much of this has faded away in recent years. SparkArts is our attempt to revive and even expand on this culture, which helped capture the imagination and inspire the previous generation's computing professionals."

People are welcome to bring their computers and install our free and legal software so that they can build new creations with ease. Those without computers will be able to use our lab area to work on their projects.

Major focuses of the festival include video game programming, computer-aided music composition, digital painting and 3D modeling. Participants will meet professional game developers, musicians, and artists in a casual setting. There will be question-and-answer sessions, tutorials, and many just-for-fun activities including games, scavenger hunts, and competitions inspired by the quirky digital-arts culture.

SparkArts will have several different competitions in game creation, music, and art all with a 24 hour deadline. The results will be displayed in a fun and colorful closing ceremony.

SparkArts organizers have been setting up similar events for more than five years, and hundreds of participants have come and enjoyed the experience. Most of SparkArts' organizers are software developers and IT professionals working in Utah.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Salt Lake City Public Library, 210 E 400 South. Please contact Clarissa, the events coordinator, at clarissahelps@gmail.com with any questions or comments. Visit the SparkArts website at www.sparkarts.org.
